About FIRST

What is FIRST?

FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”

FIRST is dedicated to engaging young minds and building teamwork, leadership, and self confidence through various challenges and competitions, while also educating students on principles of engineering and technology.

The program was founded by Dean Kamen (Inventor of the Segway) and Woodie Flowers (A Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1989 in order to inspire kids to pursue interests in technology fields. FIRST has expanded to have multiple competitions for children in elementary school through the end of high school. www.usfirst.org
